# Primero v2 install issue

Hi,

I seem to be running into an issue once I run the ansible-playbook bootstrap.yml.

Thanks for the reply.  
However this makes no sense, the whole process of installations has been done by root and root is the owner of the files. →   
root@primero:~/v2-deploy/primero/ansible# ls -lah …/venv/bin/  
total 344K  
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4.0K Jul 14 08:40 .  
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4.0K Jul 11 13:53 …  
-rw-r–r-- 1 root root 2.1K Jul 11 13:53 activate

Unless im missing something else

So i’ve gone ahead and completely re-installed the vm and followed the configuration guide.  
Once again at this step, its failing :

I am starting to think it has something to do with my ssh config. Is there a chance you could send me a copy of what it should look like?

You are right, the issue is with ssh  
You are trying to use ansible to install locally so you need to be able to ssh into your own macine. Basically you need to be able to open a terminal and run this command successfully:

`ssh root@primero.pennyappeal.local`

So as the root user you need to create an ssh key (if root does not have one) and provide the public part of that key to ansible.  
Conceptually you can think of it like this:  
You recently bought a safe for your house with a lock and key which you then place in your bedroom. Even if you turn up to your own house with your own passport and driving license you are not getting into the safe in your own bedroom without the safe key

Yes. Since it is local you can also copy the private ssh key to

`/root/.ssh`

and call it `primero_deployment_key` since this is what ansible needs to do its work

I’m either being dumb or confused, but still can’t get it to work.  
This is my setup. I have a VM hosted on a private cloud (vmware) - logged in via the user I setup the vm with. logged into root via sudo -i -  
root@primero:~/.ssh# ssh-keygen  
Generating public/private rsa key pair.  
Enter file in which to save the key (/root/.ssh/id\_rsa): primero\_deployment\_key  
Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase):  
Enter same passphrase again:  
Your identification has been saved in primero\_deployment\_key  
Your public key has been saved in primero\_deployment\_key.pub  
The key fingerprint is:  
SHA256:PFnWn4vCotzqNFi69AywXyjqVX6NZwmC1gwQyuisAG4 root@primero  
The key’s randomart image is:  
±–[RSA 3072]----+

|+ . . |  
|+. . o . |  
|= = . + . . |

created the ssh key - copied the content of the private key into the secrets.yml file.  
Still getting the same error

You need to copy the key like this  
ssh-copy-id -i localhost  
This copies the key to authorized\_keys which you can check exists  
Then try to ssh to the localhost with  
ssh -vv root@primero.pennyappeal.local

So if I just try ssh -vv root@primero.pennyappeal.local it fails and wants a password authentication.  
if I specify the ssh-key then it authenticates with no issue : ssh -vv -i primero\_deployment\_key root@primero.pennyappeal.local  
I think it might have something to do with the sshd\_config file, but I am not sure.

Can ansible read authorized\_keys? What permissions does it have? You may need to do

```auto
chmod og-wx ~/.ssh/authorized_keys

```

that needs to be

```auto
-rw-r--r--.

```

so maybe try to

```auto
$ chmod 750

```

the file. The primero deployment key file has the same issue

chmod 750 would give the files execute permissions.

Yes , `$ chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys`  
Try to remove the swp file then check `/etc/ssh/sshd_config` and set `PasswordAuthentication no` then restart the ssh service `$ systemctl restart ssh`  
then try to ssh with debugging turned on and paste the log if it fails
